Integrated Appliances
Integrated appliances offer a neat and modern solution when fitting a new kitchen. Traditionally, fitting a new kitchen has involved arranging cupboard and worktops around a number of freestanding appliances – a dishwasher, a fridge/freezer or a cooker. But nowadays, many people choose to design their kitchen to include integrated appliances, which are built in to the kitchen itself.

Integrated appliances give a kitchen a sleek, modern appearance, and turn a kitchen of mis-matched units and appliances into a kitchen with a single theme running throughout. This leaves everything looking planned and co-ordinated, and will always impress. The most common integrated kitchen appliance is the hob and cooker combination.

Your hob can be built directly into the kitchen worktop that will create a seamless surface on which to cook. Not only does this look a lot tidier than having free standing appliances, but it can also help keep your kitchen clean. How many times have you cursed in frustration as a stray piece of food falls down the gap between your freestanding cooker/hob and the worktop? An integrated hob eliminates this problem, leaving a kitchen which is both easier to clean and stunning to look at.

There are many types of integrated hob to choose from. Whatever you choose will depend on a number of factors, including your cooking habits and the ease of cleaning offered by this particular integrated kitchen appliance, but every preference is catered for. A gas hob will cook anything you need, and what you may lose in temperature accuracy is countered by the money you will save – gas hobs can be as much as £200 cheaper than other models.

Those who prefer a hob which offers precision temperature control and a smooth, easy to clean surface may go for a ceramic hob. Although this appliance costs slightly more than its gas counterpart, a ceramic hob will fit almost unnoticed in a fully integrated kitchen. For those who simply cannot decide between gas and ceramic hobs, a company called Domino offer a great compromise. Domino offers a great integrated kitchen appliance which combines both gas and ceramic hobs.

This kind of appliance is ideal for those who want to have flexibility when cooking. Hobs are not the only kitchen appliance which can be integrated. The oven and grill can also be combined into one unit which is built into the kitchen itself. This offers the modern appearance and ease of cleaning once again, and the cooker can of course be chosen to match the hob for a consistent theme.

For those worried about bending down to reach a low cooker, some manufacturers even offer integrated appliances which are placed at chest level for easy access. If you are after a consistent theme across your whole kitchen, then there is nothing better than filling it with integrated kitchen appliances. Dishwashers and fridge/freezers can be integrated, and can be fitted with panels the same as your kitchen cupboards to really streamline the room. When the appliance door is closed it matches the rest of the units.

Article on Integrated Appliances....
The benefit of having an integrated appliance is that the appliance is fitted behind a cupboard door that matches the rest of your kitchen. This means that the appliance is hidden from view and gives your kitchen a uniform look. It also saves you the trouble of having to match up your appliances with each other. Depending on the manufacturer, there are a couple of different ways to seamlessly fit the cupboard door onto your integrated appliance- the first is with a sliding system where the cupboard door is fastened directly onto the unit and then connected to the door of the appliance with a sliding rail. This means that when the door is opened or closed, the cupboard door will slide along the rail. One of the other methods of integration is the Door-on-Door system. This system requires the cupboard door and the appliance door to be connected by simply fixing the cupboard door directly onto the appliance door.

These forms of integration where the appliance is concealed behind a cupboard door do not work for all appliances though. It is fine for fridges, and washing machines, but ovens will need a space of their own for the oven door to open and obviously for you to be able to see into the oven to check on how well the turkey is coming along at Christmas. As with other integrated appliances, built- in ovens are also far more popular now than they ever have been. A built in oven gives a sleek and sophisticated look that is perfect for a contemporary kitchen. It can save space and it means that you can buy all the components of your cooking area separately. As well as built in ovens, there are built in hobs, built in microwaves- almost any appliance can be integrated.

If you like the look of an integrated appliance, but are worried about the quality of performance, put your mind at ease. An integrated appliance is as packed full of features as its freestanding counterpart. An example of this is the Britannia Built In Oven range. All of Britannia's integrated ovens are rated A for energy efficiency, every single one of the main ovens has nine functions, they feature Britannia's own Quickstart function, which means that your oven will reach a heat of 200 degrees Celsius in just six minutes and they all look fantastic.

If you have a modern kitchen and are looking for that clean finish, then integrated appliances may well be what you are looking for.

There are several definitions of the verb integrate: to bring together or incorporate parts into a whole; to make up, combine, or complete to produce a whole or larger unit, as parts do; and to unite and combine. Whatever best fits your idea of integration, it is a fact that integrated kitchen appliances are far more popular today than they ever have been. Almost all kitchen manufacturers now offer integrated appliances and they generally do not cost much more than a free standing appliance.
