De Dietrich is a premium specification, top of the range brand and its products are are known for their high quality. De Dietrich have been around for over three centuries, but have really made an impact on the UK market over the last twenty five years.
De Dietrich was founded in 1684 and the business was initially centred in the ironworking trade. De Dietrich gradually expanded into other areas such as the steel sector, decorative ironwork and railway rolling stock. It was not until two and a quarter centuries after its foundation that De Dietrich branched out into the domestic appliance market. Its début appliance in 1910 was the Mertzwiller Cooker.
The naming of the company has quite an interesting story behind it. De Dietrich was named after a French family who had been bestowed with a peerage honour from King Louis XV in 1761. Its logo was the first brand logo to appear in France and had originally been introduced to the De Dietrich family as a pre-cautionary guard against counterfeiting. It was Jean De Dietrich who first bought the forge that the company was originally base din and founded the company in the 17th century. The company logo was not introduced until 1778.
De Dietrich prides itself on its innovation and design and has been one of the front runners in incorporating modern technology throughout the last century and up to the present day. Because of this, De Dietrich have produced a few firsts in the domestic appliance world. For example, in the 1980s the company produced the first ever multi- function oven (fan cooking and combined heat). De Dietrich introduced the world to the joys of a pyrolytic cleaning oven in 1982. Other firsts from the company include ceramic hobs with integrated knobs, ‘Cool Touch’ doors for ovens, touch controls for ovens, ICS technology for cooking and dishwashing, pedestal frame for glass surface cooking, gas hobs with touch controls, Turn and Press microwave combination control and the list goes on.
So in terms of features that the appliances have, De Dietrich are very technologically aware of their market and they cater for it very well. In terms of design and the aesthetic qualities of a De Dietrich appliance, they generally have quite a sleek, clean and industrial look to them. The products fit in well with either a contemporary or traditional kitchen and the design usually involves simple, straight lines and a lot of stainless steel. Stainless steel has always been a favourite amongst kitchen appliance manufacturers because it does not scratch easily and is very easy to clean- which is probably a reason why stainless steel is also a popular choice for consumers as well.
De Dietrich now offer all kinds of appliances- not only cookers and ovens, but also laundry appliances, fridge freezers and accessories and cooker hoods too.
